What is known, and what is missing
Measured on: Crow's-feet wrinkle grade and elasticity.
In the study everyone cites, the 30 women took 6 mg oral astaxanthin daily as well as applying it, the design was open-label with no control, and the topical dose was a 78.9 micromolar solution - about 0.005%, orders of magnitude below the 0.2-1% this KB lists - so the week-8 wrinkle and elasticity changes cannot be assigned to the topical product. The companion arm (36 men, 6 weeks) was oral only. No vehicle-controlled topical-only trial exists.
